High season goes from June to August also Christmas and Holly Week are consider high season. The star classification system is used in Bolivia to rate hotels. Higher star ratings often indicate hotels with higher levels of luxury available. In Bolivia you will find that there are hotels to suit every budget and in most cases offer excellent value for the money. Normally 3,4 and 5 star hotels are normally found in the main cities alone (La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, etc.), but on smaller places which receive a lot of tourist such as Copacabana, Coroico, Rurrenabaque, Sorata and Uyuni, you will find many hotels offering suitable accommodations.

Hotel Classification

Prices given in the following classification are for a double room with bathroom (shower and toilet). We will categorize them depending on the price and amenities they offer.

High End (from $66 to $US 150 per night) normally these establishments are 5 star hotels, Apart hotels and Resorts. Hotels in this range are usually only found in large cities like La Paz and also on some tourist centers. They should offer: pool, sauna, gym, business center, conference rooms, Internet connection, restaurant(s), bar(s), a safe box, minibar, cable TV, air conditioning and/or heating, hotel transportation, laundry, accept credit cards, breakfast included, room service, money exchange, etc.  

Comfort (from US$ 36 to B US$ 65) 4 and 3 star hotels, the better value for the money in theses categories provide more than standard facilities and comfort. They should offer: Internet connection, restaurant(s), bar(s), a safe box, minibar, cable TV, air conditioning and/or heating, hotel transportation, laundry, accept credit cards, breakfast included, room service, money exchange, etc. Some may offer pool, sauna and gym.

Functional (from US$ 15 to US$ 35 per night) normally 2 star hotels; hotels in this category range are very comfortable and at the same time functional. At these prices you should expect restaurant, a safe box, TV, air conditioning and/or heating*, hotel transportation*, laundry, accept credit cards*, money exchange*, breakfast included, toilet paper, towels soap. (*check with hotel)

Budget ($us 7 to $US 14 per night) normally hostels (hostal in Spanish), “hosterias” (very similar to a hostel) and 1 star hotels, in this range you can expect some degree of comfort and cleanliness, a private bathroom with hot water and perhaps continental breakfast included. Many backpackers and other tourist traveling on a budget favor them. Many have their own restaurants and offer services such as laundry, safe deposit box, money exchange and luggage store.

Tight Budget (Up to $US 6 per night) normally some hostels (hostal in Spanish), “alojamietos”   and “hosterias” (hostel type places), for this price you can expect a very simple room usually consisting of a little more than a bed and four walls, maybe a window, table and a chair. A shared bathroom is normally the rule at this price range. Normally these places don't always supply soap, towels and toilet paper. Privacy can be something to have in mind.
